Periodontitis. Periodontium Treatment
“Periodontal” means “around the tooth”. The term periodontitis describes chronic inflammation of the periodontal tissue. This inflammation is caused by bacteria.
The germs slowly advance along the tooth surface towards the root of the tooth and collect in the periodontal pockets. If this inflammation is not combated it continues to progress underneath the surface and gradually deepens the periodontal pockets. At last, the inflammatory process creeps into the entire gum and gradually results in a deterioration of the ligaments and bones supporting the teeth.
The results: the gum recedes, the teeth appear to be longer and slowly start to get loose, and in the worst case may fall out completely. What do we do to protect you from periodontitis?
Our primary goal is to get rid of the inflammation and heal the gum. Depending on the degree of the periodontitis, we apply various procedures. To remove the bacteria from the periodontal pockets, we “brush” your teeth, as it were, underneath the gum. Once tartar, plaque and bacteria have been removed, the tissue can regenerate itself. For this purpose, we us special high-tech instruments such as ultrasound cleaners which gently clean and smoothen the sensitive roots of the teeth.
